I woke the next morning before the sun had risen over the horizon. My sleep had been restless as the dreams and anxieties of the escape would not ease their grip on my mind even as I slept. I looked over at Mr. Suttonâs naked body. His prick was stiff with night dreams. I licked my lips, wanting nothing more than to slide my tongue over the length of his trunk and wake him with a morning release. My own prick stiffened at the thought. I tugged on it and a soft moan escaped my lips. I gripped my satchel and pulled, bringing with it a stinging pleasure that lit a fire deep within my belly. I hesitated but soon realized it was too late to stop. I fondled myself with growing urgency as I gazed with hungry eyes upon my sleeping bedmate. The pleasure came too sudden to fully appreciate. I did not fight it but let the release take over and sprayed my seed across my body. I shook and trembled from the intense satisfaction that my release brought and licked my fingers clean, tasting of my own gratification.
I sat up, swinging my feet to the floor, and watched my prick recede as another spasm shot through me, spilling the last of my seed on the floor. I stood up and walked to the window, pulled the curtain back, and peered out into the night. I thought of Alistair alone in his cell, spending what might have been his last few hours alive hoping we would come for him but unaware of how or whenâor if we would come at all.
âIs everything all right?â Mr. Suttonâs sudden question caused me to jump.
âI suppose.â
âWhat is troubling you?â
âThe last time someone counted on me to get them out of Newgate, I failed.â
âMother Clap?â
âYes.â I held back a tear as it pooled in my eye. âIt still hurts after all this time.â
âBe thankful for the time you had with her, Thomas.â He came to me. âMost people never get to experience that kind of unconditional love. Rejoice in the memories, and do not let it burden you. If you hold on to the grief too long, the memories become tainted. She would not have wanted that for you.â He wrapped his arms about me and his stiffness settled into the crevice of my ass.
âThank you for those words. I shall remember that, and I shall take you up on this offer when this is over.â I wiggled my hips, turned, and kissed him. âWe should dress and get down to the prison.â I broke our embrace as anxiety and nerves riddled my body like a thousand sewing needles piercing my skin.
The cold morning air caught in my throat as we left the coffeehouse and made our way to the carriage. I sat up front with Mr. Sutton to finalize our plans. It was just before dawn as we rode through the still-slumbering streets of London.
âI hate this fucking place.â I broke the cold silence as we pulled the carriage around to the back of Newgate.
